Stick Family Portrait, the Masterpiece

Twodles hasn't been one to draw. A person who shall remain unnamed would like to think it is all my doing since I made him switch from left to right, but the kid honestly wasn't into it...till lately!

It's fun to see him be interested in and eager about drawing. Today he was so excited to show me his first family portrait! What a masterpiece!

He asked me to take a picture and made sure to put the stylus behind his ear beforehand :)

This drawing may appear a little behind schedule based on this developmental guideline, but anyone who's anyone knows that Twodles is as sharp as a tack, just marches to the beat of his own drum!

The artist in me longs for him to love creating as much as I do and I'm committing to giving both my boys more opportunities to be creative even though the OCD in me (let's be honest here, all of us have a little OCD hidden in some cob-webbed corner of our being, right?) doesn't prefer messy adventures to clean up.

Here is a quote from one of my favorite articles that touches on the power of creating:

"Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty.."  -Happiness, Your Heritage, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

If you haven't read the article you should! It speaks to my soul and motivates me to improve. It just might do the same for you.

Can't wait to see what he creates next!

Our Little Man

I can't believe that 9 whole months have passed since our sweet Goob joined our family.  If you ask Mr Medic his opinion on little babies he would respond "I hate the first year!"  You would think I might say something similar, but I've got momnesia!  I suffer on a daily basis and seem to quickly forget the not so fun moments.  Although this babe is far from sleeping through the night, I am somehow able to function from day to day.  And he sure makes up for rough nights with his sweet smile and contagious giggle during the day.

Isn't he handsome?

Here are some fun facts about Goob:

  • First tooth on January 26, 2013
  • Crawling with more coordination/consistency on February 8, 2013
  • Pulls himself up for the first time on February 22, 2013 (and subsequently falls out of the crib)
  • Starts waving to someone at church on February 24, 2013
  • Second tooth on March 7, 2013
  • Loves to chew on baby wipes (don't let you kids do that.  They can make them go blind...its a battle every time I change a diaper)
  • Is a little more snuggly than Twodles ever was
  • Is a blankie boy just like his big brother, and a binkie boy not at all like his big brother
  • Wants to eat normal food rather than pureed baby food
  • Likes to drink from a sippy cup
  • Starts scaling the couch on March 19, 2013
  • Is going through a bit of a separation anxiety phase right now
  • Has a rolling giggle when he is tickled
  • 18 lbs as of March 18, 2013
  • Doesn't handle teething well
  • Seems to play more independently than Twodles did
  • Has sensitive skin and the cutest little birth mark on his left cheek you can see above
  • HE LOOKS MORE LIKE ME THAN HIS DADDY!!!!!!
  • Nicknames include:  Goob, Goobie JJ, Goobie Loob, Goober, etc
We sure love you Goob!

Sans Neverland

Peter Pan and the Lost Boys never grew old...baby boy isn't one of them!

Milestones at a Glance....

First Documented Smile 7/2/12

  • He seems to be very smiley.  I've thought even more so than Twodles was, but figured it was just me.  Mr Medic voiced the same thing just the other day so it must be.  He smiles when you talk to him, bounce him, and sometimes as soon as he's been unswaddled from a nap and had a good stretch.  Maybe this means he's not taking after daddy and big brother.  He seems to be pretty sweet almost just as soon as he's been retrieved.
  • From early on I noticed a special attachment to the changing table.  I have a picture of Jesus with a child sitting on His lap right above the table, and its almost as if the babe smiles just as soon as he sees that picture.  It is one of his very favorite spots to be.  Its too bad that he is mobile now, because I could leave him there for a bit to enjoy whatever it is he likes so much.

First Shots 8/14/12 (2 months)-
  • He definitely didn't enjoy getting shots, but seemed ok since he fell asleep pretty quick.  I didn't think any more of it since Twodles handled things pretty well.  As soon as baby boy woke up he was hysterical.  If we were to even brush up against his legs at all he would tense up and scream bloody murder.  He was in so much pain he wouldn't even nurse.  It was the saddest thing ever.

Starting to notice cooing and "talking"  week of 9/9/12

movie to come, hard time uploading

Rolled from front to back on 9/18/12 (3 months)-

  • I kept hearing about other peoples babies that were about the same age or even a bit younger than baby boy rolling over.  I admit I am not great at making him do tummy time (he's either just eaten and I don't want him puking it all up, or sleeping) so I figured he was far from being ready to roll over.  I decided to see what would happen if I put him on his tummy.  Low and behold he just rolled right over

Starts giggling 9/24/12

  • He seems to be ticklish, and has even laughed at funny noises that Twodles makes

Rolls from back to tummy 9/29/12

First time rolling from back to tummy
Rolled halfway from back to front...can't decide which direction he wants to be.
Rolled from his back to his tummy and got stuck

We DEFINITELY have a bit of a thumb sucker:

I don't know if it's a coincidence but he is sucking is right thumb in every picture.  It IS cute, but its not going to be so cute when he is 10 and still sucking on that thing and he has teeth like Austin Powers.

His hair, we have decided, reminds of us of a dinosaur or shark:

Conan's got nothin' on me!
His hair just naturally does this
Shark Fin

Dino Head
Say hello to Mr. Corythosaurus aka baby boys twin

We are currently mulling around nicknames that would go along with those two animals.

Baby boy was sleeping pretty well through the night, only waking once to eat and going right back to sleep till morning.  We are on an I-want-to-eat-every-two-hours kick right now.
